Introduction
The Department offers a varied program in the language and culture of Korean. In addition to five levels of Korean language, faculty teach a range of courses from introductions to Korean culture, literature in translation, to linguistics and art.

Korean Language Study at DEALL
The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) at The Ohio State University offers a varied program in Korean language, under the leadership of Professors Chan E. Park and Danielle Ooyoung Pyun. DEALL's Korean Language Program is nationally recognized for the quality of its language instruction. The Korean Language Program includes 5 levels of instruction in 2 formats: Individualized Instruction and Regular classroom (five hours per week). Beginning
First Level (Korean 1101-1102 [Regular, Individualized]): Standard Korean at the elementary level, with emphasis on building and applying basic language knowledge in doing things in Korean; exercises in oral interactions and interactions involving text; introduction to the Korean writing system (Hangul).
Intermediate
Second Level (Korean 1103-2102 [Regular], 1103 also offered in Individualized): Continuation of First Level with an increasing emphasis on communicative strategy building.
Third Level: (Korean 4101-4102 [Regular, Individualized]): Continuation of Second Level.
Advanced
Fourth Level (Korean 5101-5102 [Regular]): Continuation of Third Level with an increasing emphasis on presentation mode of communication.
Fifth Level (Korean 5103-5104 [Regular]): This series of courses allows the exceptional undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural discourses of Korea through discussion of texts and broadcast media that reflect current intellectual concerns of Korea.
Individualized Instruction: You can pursue the study of Korean on a self-paced, one-to-one teacher/student basis in Individualized Instruction through the 1103 and 4101-4102.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literature offers an undergraduate major in Korean. The major program includes studies in language, literature, culture, and linguistics. Any given course can count only toward the fulfillment of one category requirement, even if the course appears as an option in more than one category.

Korean Minor
The minor in Korean consists of 15 credit hours of prerequisites and 14 semester credit hours of course work beyond the stated prerequisites. The purpose of the prerequisites is to give students a linguistic and cultural foundation upon which to build an understanding of Korea. The courses beyond the prerequisites are intended to provide more substantial training in the Korean language and further cultural understanding. Selections of courses are to be made with the advice and counsel of an adviser, and students should be aware that not all of the courses that are available for the minor are offered every year so that early and careful planning is advised. No more than 6 of the credit hours required for the minor can be transfer credits.
