DEALL Awards nearly $30,000 in student scholarships!

This week, the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures awarded nearly $30,000 in scholarship awards to 28 undergraduate and graduate students. These scholarships which come from a combination of donor-funded scholarship funds and departmental scholarship funds, recognize outstanding academic work in our department's courses and programs. Congratulations to all of our scholarship winners! 

The following is a list of awards with the names of award recipients:

Shuh-Chai Lee Scholarship Award - This scholarship was established in 2009 to support faculty, students (both graduate and undergraduate) and programs within the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures.

Tien-yi Li Award - The Tien-Yi Li Prize Fund was established in1985, by the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University with a gift to the Office of University Development from Julia L. Li of Columbus, Ohio, in honor of Tien-Yi Li, Professor Emeritus in the Departments of East Asian Languages and Literatures and History.  This scholarship is to support an outstanding graduate student in Chinese humanities at The Ohio State University.

David Y Chen Memorial Scholarship Award - This scholarship was established to support undergraduate and graduate scholarships, student support, faculty support and program support within East Asian Languages and Literatures

Miyo Kawai Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship was established in 1970 to support the Japanese language studies by Miyo Kawai (Mrs. Kazuo Kawai), a member of the faculty of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures from 1963 to 1970.

Atsushi Onoe Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship was established in 2006 to support academic activities of OSU students who wish to pursue the study of the Japanese language and culture, including but not limited to, scholarships, travel, and educational support materials.

Tanakadate Aikitu Prize -  This scholarship was established in 1999 to be awarded to the most outstanding graduate students in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures of the Ohio State University in the field of Japanese humanities.

This Nissen Chemitec America Scholarship  - This award was created based on Nissen Chemitec Corporation’s (Niihama, Ehime-ken, Japan) contribution to our department. It is given to 1-2 students annually who plans to study in Japan.

Chris Lee Korean Performance Award - the Chris Lee Korean Performance Research Fund was established April 4, 2014, to support the Korean Language Program, with an emphasis on performance studies including outreach, teaching, research, and programming.

Korean Studies Fund - This scholarship was established in 1995 to support study in Korean, faculty research in Korean studies or a lecture by a Korean studies distinguished scholar.
